2004 Summer Series Special Rules
(revised 6/8/04, green text)
These rules supersede the SCCA rule book and AZ Region Supplemental Rules for 2004. All other SCCA rule book and AZ Region Supplemental rules apply. It is useful to purchase your own rule book.
1) Registration by on-line preregistration only.
LIMIT of 120 Entries on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Entrants in the earlier summer series events will have preference in the later summer series events. For example:
a) Everyone can register for first event on a first-come basis.
b) At the second event anyone who entered the first event in the series will have preference. Then others on a first-come basis.
c) At the third event anyone who entered the first event in the series will have preference. Then anyone who entered the second event in the series. Then others on a first-come basis.
2) Event Safety. This event will take place on a 0.7 mile mini road course used by the Law Enforcement community for driver training at Central Arizona College. It therefore has added hazards if going off the course and into loose dirt. Therefore a some special rules apply:
To drive by yourself in one of these series events you MUST HAVE prior autocross driving experience competing in at least one autocross with AZ Region SCCA, the AZ Border Region SCCA or the Sierra Vista Sports Car Club within the past two years. The recent CCC autocross in Flagstaff on 6/6/04 also qualifies as experience. If this is the very first autocross you have ever done, you can enter only under the following special provisions:
a) First-time autocrossers can only run in the C or D run groups.
b) First-time autocrossers must have an experienced instructor ride with them for the first 2 runs.
c) An instructor can be anyone who has qualified for the final standings in at least two series in the past 2 years (i.e. has more experience than a novice). The instructor must also have completed their competion runs before riding with another competitor.
d) The instructor will primarily try to correct excessive speed by emphasizing braking points and limits to acceleration in turns (other advice is optional).
e) If the first-time autocrosser does not follow the directions of instructor then they will not be allowed to make any further runs.
f) The instructor can decide if the first-time autocrosser is ready to run by themselves on the remaining runs or continue to ride with them.
3) Lose of Control. Getting two or more wheels off of the paved surface will result in added penalties as given below. Refer to drawings to clarify the concepts.
a) If you lose control and get any two wheels off of the paved track, that timed run will be a DNF.
b) If you lose control and get all four wheels off of the paved track, but limit the distance off track to less than 50 feet and the angle of drift is less than 45 degrees, that timed run will be a DNF.
c) If you lose control and get all four wheels off of the paved track, but the distance off track exceeds 50 feet or the angle of drift exceeds 45 degrees, that timed run will be a DNF and you will not be permitted to take any further runs.
d) If you get a DNF as the result of rule (3c) above on you LAST run, then ALL of your runs will be scored as DNF.
4) Sound Limits. Since we are next to college campus a sound limit of 90 dBa at gate to the track. This will allow higher sound levels on the track. First runs over the limit will be DNF, second one will be DNQ.
5) This event may be canceled if the track is wet the day of the event, or the surrounding dirt has been soaked by a previous rain. In the event of a cancellation the event will be rerun the following weekend. If the backup event is canceled due to rain, then the event will be dropped from the series.
6) Special Event Parking. There is not sufficient parking in the small lot near the track for all entrants. There are a maximum of 55 parking spaces in this small lot. Therefore it will be assigned on a first-come , first-serve basis to on-line pregregistration with the following preferences given:
a) All cars to be entered by two drivers (fill in second driver on on-line pre-entry form).
b) Modified cars with insufficient ground clearance to go over the speed bump from the larger parking lot (note in comments on on-line pre-entry form).
c) If there are any spots left after the above preferences, then single driver cars will be able to park there on first-come, first serve in on-line preregistration.
Any entrants who do not get parking spots in the small lot must park in the larger lot about 0.3 miles to the south. Also, ALL trailers and tow vehicles MUST park in the larger lot regardless of whether your actual entry car is in the small lot. Vehicles can be unloaded along the road near the small lot. No parking of any vehicles on any unpaved area (NO EXCEPTIONS, this is a CAC policy we must abide by). You may unload your vehicle from its trailer near the Registration and Waiver station.
7) Waiver and registration check-in will be at the last road "Y" leading to the track. Check in here to receive pre-registration slip which is stamped with parking assignment. Then proceed to your parking area. Tech inspection will be by "walk-around" inspectors. Leave pre-registration slip on windshield to be inspected.

8) There will be no food service so, please bring your own drinks and snacks. Remember that it will be really hot in these months and bring lots of fluids!
9) We will start as early as possible and end event teardown by Noon to avoid the hottest time of day.
10) Event Classes/Awards: For this series we will use the regular classing and trophies as listed in the 2004 Supplementals, as revised 5/13/04, except...please note that everyone in this event will have run group choice on a first-come, first-serve basis.
